Party funding

Another week, another story about political funding.  As the latest stories unravel and threads lead to more and more Labour politicians, the opportunity arises once again for some to argue for the fundding of parties through taxation.  I am not sure what benefit we, the taxpayers, would get from such a solution.  I only see advantages in tightening the current situation.  As it becomes harder for parties to raise monies in the way they have become accustiomed to, whether from wealthy individual, corporate or union donors, perhaps parties will have to turn back to recruiting ordinary members?  Who knows?  Maybe they would, in the process, reconnect with the public that seems so unwilling to vote for them, let alone pay for them.
